Product Safety and Social Responsibility

Environment & Ethics - A big issue at P&C

When it comes to the environment and ethics, our approach is meticulous: our performance is checked systematically and rigorously – socially acceptable behaviour is an integral part of our company policy. It is vital to us to be able to offer our customers wares that have been produced exclusively under humane conditions, in accordance with the protective provisions of the producing country’s labour law and with due regard for environmental protection. Furthermore, it goes without saying that we will take back our packing materials if you want us to and dispose of them responsibly.

Product Safety at P&C - physiologically harmless

Our purchasing policy is subject to exceptionally high standards and careful controls that go far beyond legal requirements. Before they can work with us, every supplier must guarantee in their contract that they will only deliver wares that contain no health hazards. In addition, our own-brand articles are tested for certain harmful substances in specially designated laboratories. Furthermore, we comply with our due diligence by regularly having our articles additionally tested at random on the basis of the strict criteria of the Ökotex Standard 100 for residues such as Azo dyes, PCP, chromium-6, nickel and TBT.

Social Responsibility: A matter of course for us

As a retail and wholesale company that purchases internationally, we know the problematic nature of working conditions in some producer countries. We are aware of our responsibility and as partners we play our part in guaranteeing good working conditions. As early as 1997, Peek & Cloppenburg created our own monitoring programme whereby specialists check working conditions and if necessary make suggestions for improvement. Since 2003 we have been involved in the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), an initiative among numerous European retail companies to introduce and check social standards.
