History

From 1869 until today

Founded in 1869 in Rotterdam by the businessmen Johann Theodor Peek and Heinrich Cloppenburg. In 1901, Peek & Cloppenburg opened their first German stores in Berlin and Düsseldorf. A second business was set up in 1911 to create two independent companies with headquarters in Düsseldorf and Hamburg. In 1989, as part of further expansion, the Anson's company was formed and has established itself as a market leader among menswear specialists. In February 2008, Peek & Cloppenburg KG Vienna was established as a headquarters for Austria and Eastern Europe and to serve the growing markets in these regions.

In 1901 James Cloppenburg opens the first store in Berliner Gertraudenstraße/ Roßstraße in Germany. At the same time the store in Düsseldorf at Schadowstraße 30 is opened.

Peek & Cloppenburg also includes ladies wear in its product range. The company expands further and opens another store at the Zeil in Frankfurt. Peek & Cloppenburg became big as a specialist for gentlemen’s and boys’ fashion.

Peek & Cloppenburg celebrates its 100th birthday! Just in time for the anniversary the refurbishing of the stores Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Karlsruhe, Ulm, Wiesbaden and Mülheim are finished. They shine in new splendor. The stores are equipped with a lot of glass, daylight, light-coloured floors of wood and natural stone and a new illumination concept so that the colours appear natural.
